This art piece represents a piece of Florida history — a stilt house off the west coast of Florida’s Durney Key, near the mouth of the ‘Cotee River. I’ve fished off these stilt houses for decades, catching redfish, trout, snook, grass grouper and flounder. The random repairs, done over decades of weather beating, make these fish camp houses so individually unique and interesting. I’ve always loved fishing and just staring at these little fish camps, imagining the decades of families and fisherman occupants. I originally hand-painted a hyper-realistic version of this, then added the stylized art later. Thank you Hannah Rose for the reference photo! I took some artistic license in this piece, so you won’t find this exact house out there.
