Snook art prints – drawings and paintings

Snook art prints are one of my favorites to create. I have many snook digital paintings available in many print sizes.

In Florida, along the Gulf coast, down through the Florida Keys and up the Atlantic coast, snook are probably the most sought after gamefish. I do a lot of snook fishing and I’ve landed hundreds of these elusive, scrappy fighters and it never gets old. Snook can also be caught in Texas and Georgia.

Juvenile common snook are generally restricted to the protection of Florida’s endless rivers and estuaries. These protective environments offer shallow water, shade and lots of vegetation to bask or hide under and ambush baitfish from. Adult common snook inhabit many Florida environments including mangrove forests, beaches, river mouths, nearshore reefs, salt marshes and grass flats.

In my “Linesider Cruising the Beach” piece, a snook cruises the beach, looking for baitfish. This is a sight I usually see when I don’t have my fishing gear… can you relate? This one was inspired by a beach fishing trip with my son to Fort Desoto, Florida. The snook were thick and plentiful. This snook art print is a great fishing gift for a snook fisherman and coastal décor.

My “Snook Jumping” piece depicts an anxious angler (my friend Mike) watching a giant snook explode on his greenback live bait while fishing the back side of Caladesi Island in St. Joseph Sound. There’s nothing like that first jump after hooking up a snook. It’s not uncommon for them to throw the hook due to their violent head shaking and jumping. I’ve tried to capture my personal experiences in this piece. When fishing shorelines in particular, anglers need to be careful releasing tires snook because they are preyed upon by dolphins, birds including osprey, and larger fish. This snook digital painting also comes in a watercolor style.

In my popular “Topwater Snook” piece, a hungry snook is about to ambush a lucky fisherman’s topwater bait. See if you can spot the other hidden Florida saltwater fish species in this piece. Topwater fishing is my favorite way to catch snook. “Walking the dog” with a topwater stick bait under or along the mangroves is not for the faint of heart. The blowups on these baits are always aggressive and spirited and it’s impossible to be prepared for it!

Probably my most popular snook artwork is “Snook Painting“. It depicts a hungry snook coming out of his mangrove hiding place to ambush a group of greenbacks (pilchards). Snook love to devour baitfish such as grunts (pigfish), pinfish, mullet, and of course, greenbacks and sardines. They also eat crustaceans such as shrimp and small crabs.

I love digitally painting these green-golden-yellow beauties and adding the distinct lateral line is my favorite part, at the end. Though there may be up to twelve species of snook, most of my snook art depicts the common snook, which has a sloping forehead with a large mouth and a distinctive protruding lower jaw.
